Fafala Bowl

Art glass bowl “Fafala” designed by Bořek Šípek, one of the most distinctive Czech designers of the late 20th century. The piece is composed of a clear organically shaped bowl set on three massive legs made of dark amber hand-formed glass. These sculptural legs create a dynamic silhouette and a strong visual contrast with the transparent crystal bowl. In the centre of the bowl rises a glass element finished with a dark spherical detail forming the visual focal point of the composition and creating interesting light reflections through the clear glass. The combination of clear crystal and warm amber colouring is characteristic of Šípek’s expressive design language. The object functions both as a design bowl and as a sculptural glass piece, balancing between applied art and glass sculpture. Thanks to its distinctive modelling and high-quality hot-worked glass technique the bowl serves as a striking decorative object as well as a collectible example of modern Czech design.
