Toyen: Toyen (1902 - 1980) - Barmaid (Folies-Bergère, Paris)

The reverse bears the inscription “Folies-Bergère Bar Paris” together with the name Toyen, while according to the owner the work is also signed and dated 1929 on the front. DESCRIPTION: This intimate ink drawing depicts a young woman behind a bar counter in the vibrant atmosphere of Parisian nightlife. Reflections in the mirror, bottles, glasses and floral elements evoke the famous Folies-Bergère cabaret. The work originates from a long-established Moravian collection and is offered as a work attributed to Toyen. The reverse bears the handwritten inscription “Folies-Bergère Bar Paris” and the name Toyen; according to the owner, the drawing is also signed and dated 1929 on the front. The composition presents a captivating glimpse into the artistic atmosphere of interwar Paris and the circle of the Czech avant-garde.
